28 Jan Somerset County Council Extend NHS Health Check Agreement
Healthy lifestyles service Thrive Tribe awarded new contract to deliver NHS Health Checks to Somerset residents.
Somerset County Council has agreed to extend its partnership with healthy lifestyles service Thrive Tribe to deliver NHS Health Checks to residents across Somerset.
Having first begun working together at the start of 2019, Thrive Tribe will continue to be the delivery partner for the NHS Health Checks in the county; for up to a further three years.
The previous twelve months has seen the reach of NHS Health Checks broaden thanks to Thrive Tribe’s work; maintaining a host of appointment locations in GP practices and pharmacies, while offering NHS Health Checks from a variety of workplaces and community venues.
A flexible appointment booking system also provides ease of access for residents to participate in the NHS Health Checks, with more than 1,000 people receiving an appointment in November 2019 alone.
Trudi Grant, Somerset’s Director of Public Health, welcomed the news: “We are delighted to have awarded the NHS Health Check contract to Thrive Tribe and to continue to work with them to deliver this important programme.
“Thrive Tribe have given advice to nearly seven thousand Somerset residents over the past 10 months, showing them how they can make small changes to improve their health. In many cases this has led to identification of risks for serious health issues such as heart disease, stroke or diabetes. Prevention is the key and we are committed to supporting the Somerset population to live healthier for longer.”
The NHS Health Checks are available to Somerset residents aged between 40 and 74, who have not been diagnosed with heart disease, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, kidney disease, or had a stroke. A resident is entitled to access one NHS Health Check every five years.
Thrive Tribe’s NHS Health Checks service has proven popular with Somerset residents, with 93% of patients surveyed in the autumn of 2019 suggesting that they would recommend the service to a friend or family member.
Following the successes of 2019, hopes are high that the service can continue to prosper in the coming years.
“We are excited to build on our recent successes with the Somerset NHS Health Checks service.” Andy Emerson, Head of Service Delivery at Thrive Tribe said. “We now have a real opportunity to do that and we’ll continue to improve our service to better support the residents of Somerset”.
