12 Jun Men’s Health Week 2019
ITS MEN’S HEALTH WEEK 2019! BUT WHAT DOES THIS MEAN? WE WANT TO ENCOURAGE MEN TO BE AWARE OF THE LIFESTYLE CHOICES THAT IMPACT PHYSICAL AND MENTAL HEALTH.
During this year’s Men’s Health Week, the emphasis is on seven numbers all men need to know:
37 – a waist of 37 inches or above puts you at increased risk of heart disease and diabetes
150 – men should aim for 150 minutes of moderate physical activity a week
5 – portions of fruit and vegetables a day
14 – maximum of 14 units of alcohol a week
10 – smokers die 10 years younger on average than non – smokers
120/80 – a normal blood pressure reading
75% – of suicides are by men
Thrive Tribe provide multiple services offering free health checks to help clients understand lifestyle choices that impact physical and metal health. If our health practitioners spot any long-term health risks during the check it will be our priority to arrange onward support as soon as possible, you’re in safe hands!
Emotional wellbeing is just as important as physical health. There are lots of factors that can have an impact on men’s emotional health. Dave S from the Men’s Health Forum says, “Since coming back from holiday, I’ve realised how much I don’t like my job and I’m beginning to lose interest in other things in life. I feel trapped because it just seems like there aren’t many stable jobs out there.” This can lead to stress which takes a toll on a person’s motivation to stay healthy and exercise, often resulting in feeling low.
Being aware of your lifestyle choices is also important in reducing your risks of a heart attack, diabetes and stroke. Discover the services we provide that offer free health checks (eligibility criteria applies):
