I have worked for Tribe Tribe almost since its inception, initially in a part time, sessional role. Over the years there have been vast changes but the heart of what we do has always stayed the same: to promote healthy lifestyles in our communities and work with clients to enable them to quit smoking.
I’m most proud of the stop smoking service I helped set up at Wormwood Scrubs prison in 2009. It was for this work that I presented at Stop Smoking Live (2011) and got recommended for advisor of the year (2013), which helped Thrive Tribe win a Royal Society of Public health award last year. I’ve also run groups at Apple, Mind, The BBC, and Riverhouse, a community based centre for people with HIV, as well as GP clinics.
Thrive tribe is a vibrant, fun, dynamic, innovative and life changing organisation. I feel privileged knowing that I can help make a difference to people’s health. My most memorable (and difficult) moment at Thrive tribe has to be the Yorkshire 3 peaks challenge, but I get most pleasure from seeing the impact quitting smoking has on people’s lives.
Since joining Thrive Tribe my career has developed significantly. I joined in 2011 as a Senior Community Health Coach and now 5 years on I am Head of Service Development! I really enjoy my work, who I work for and the positive impact this has on my home life.
The main difference between Thrive Tribe and the other organisations I have worked for is that all staff are considered equal. There is no hierarchy, nobody with private offices and all staff ideas are heard and valued. The organisation does live by its values. The team development, career opportunities and friendly staff are the best I have encountered. My proudest moment was being nominated for the Thrive Tribe Be Successful Award by my colleagues.
I started with Thrive Tribe in April 2014 as a Child Weight Management practitioner. Soon after starting I noticed the strong culture of the organisation – to help people thrive, not only clients but staff too. The work environment is fun, supportive and understanding and I really enjoy working with like-minded, passionate members of staff to help improve the health of families in Luton.
Within a year of working with Thrive Tribe I had the opportunity to become the Child Weight Management Lead which gave me the chance to grow, develop and broaden my skills within childhood obesity and weight management. I have also developed valuable friendships during my time here which makes working even more enjoyable. Regular team building and social events allow for good working relationships across all services creating a better working morale.
Thrive Tribe provides a relaxed and friendly environment, there is no micromanagement and a high level of trust and independence to achieve your working goals and targets. These are just some of the many reasons why I enjoy working with this refreshing organisation.
